If a surge is detected in the measured current level at a position other than the end position of the windscreen, it retracts automatically. This prevents objects and fingers from becoming trapped between the windscreen and the top of the fairing. When the windscreen is down, it also serves as anti-theft protection for the BMW navigation system, which is available as an optional accessory.
